Corbin nears comeback from Tommy John

PHOENIX -- D-backs starter Patrick Corbin continues to pitch well in his rehab assignment with Double-A Mobile, but manager Chip Hale said the left-hander would still need two more outings before returning to the Majors.

On Saturday night, Corbin allowed two runs on three hits in 5 2/3 innings in his third rehab appearance. Corbin has not pitched with the D-backs since 2013 after undergoing Tommy John surgery.

"He looked good," Hale said. "Looked like again he pitched very well."

Corbin allowed just one run in the first five innings of the outing, but then gave up another run in the sixth and was unable to complete the inning.

"[He] just tires a little bit at the end, and that's why we're building him up," Hale said.

Hale has said before that it would be unfair to expect Corbin to immediately return to the All-Star form he showed in 2013, and it's more important to get him recovered to be 100 percent for next year.

Corbin was 14-8 with a 3.41 ERA in 2013 for the D-backs.
