Phillies spring getaway part of auction for LUNGevity

To benefit charity, fans can also bid on experience of bringing player to work, joining a broadcast

SAN DIEGO -- The Phillies are hoping to make a difference in the fight against cancer with some unique baseball experiences available in an auction that benefits LUNGevity.

LUNGevity is the largest national lung cancer-focused nonprofit, which was chosen in memory of late Orioles public relations director Monica Barlow. She died in February after fighting the disease. Barlow and her family were enthusiastic supporters of LUNGevity.

The auction includes multiple items from all 30 teams. The auction began Monday at noon ET and will be live on MLB.com until Thursday at 11 p.m. ET.

"The Phillies put together some great experiences for this year's auction, with the goal to raise as much money as possible for LUNGevity," Phillies vice president of communications Bonnie Clark said. "This collective effort by all MLB teams shows just how special Monica was. She was a true PR professional in every sense of the word. We hope the money raised will enable others to not have to feel the profound sense of loss that all who knew Monica are experiencing."

The Phillies have three items available in the auction:
Bring a Phillies player to work: A player to be named will visit a local business within 25 miles of Citizens Bank Park for a pep rally, bringing lunch for a staff of 30 employees. The event will take place on a mutually agreed upon date when the team is home during the 2015 season.

Spring Training getaway for family of four: The winner will have a meet-and-greet with a Phillies player before the March 21 game against the Blue Jays at Bright House Field in Clearwater, Fla. One family member will throw out the first pitch, while the entire family will watch batting practice from the field and take a behind-the-scenes tour of the Spring Training facility. The package includes other attractions in Clearwater, plus hotel accommodations at the Sheraton Sand Key Resort from March 20-22. Transportation to Clearwater is not provided with this package.

Be Phillies broadcaster Gregg Murphy's sidekick for a game: The winner receives an on-camera experience with Murphy. It includes an opportunity to interview a celebrity/local athlete, dinner in the press dining room with broadcasters or front-office members, a tour of the ballpark and sit in the dugout with broadcasters and media during batting practice.
