Pirates announce 2016 promotional schedule
Bobbleheads, fireworks and "Free Shirt Fridays" highlight the 2016 promotions at PNC Park
The Pittsburgh Pirates announced today the details of their promotional schedule for the 2016 season with more than 40 promotional dates planned. The schedule is highlighted by collectible bobbleheads, fireworks, "Free Shirt Fridays," "Kids Days" and more.
The promotional schedule will start immediately to open the season as all fans in attendance on Opening Day of the 2016 season at PNC Park will receive a Pirates 2016 magnetic Pirates schedule. The first pitch of the season is scheduled to be thrown at 1:05 p.m. on Sunday, April 3 vs. Central Division rival St. Louis Cardinals.
The promotional schedule features popular collectibles such as four bobblehead giveaway dates and a kids Josh Harrison gnome figurine. The 2016 collectible games include:
- Sunday, April 17 vs Milwaukee Brewers, Kids Josh Harrison Gnome
- Saturday, May 21 vs Colorado Rockies, Raise the Jolly Roger Bobblehead
- Thursday, June 23 vs San Francisco Giants, Gerrit Cole Bobblehead
- Thursday, August 11 vs San Diego Padres, Jung Ho Kang Bobblehead
- Saturday, September 10 vs Cincinnati Reds, Francisco Liriano Bobblehead
In addition, the Pirates have announced the return of the popular "Free Shirt Fridays" with 13 Friday tee shirt giveaway dates planned for 2016. There are also seven postgame Zambelli Firework dates on the schedule with two scheduled in the opening month on Saturday, April 16 vs the Brewers, and Saturday, April 30 vs the Reds.
Once again every Sunday home game of the 2016 season (excluding Opening Day) will be designated as "Kids Day" at PNC Park. There will be fun and games located outside PNC Park on Federal Street prior to each Sunday afternoon home game and most days will feature a kids 14 and younger special giveaway with paid admission to the game. Some of the promotional highlights include kids Andrew McCutchen Silver Slugger plastic bat giveaway on Sunday, May 1; kids Pirates pillbox cap on Sunday, June 5; and kids Andrew McCutchen new replica alternate jersey on Sunday, June 26.
The 2016 promotional items will be on display at PirateFest being held at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center on Saturday, December 12 for the general public and Sunday, December 13 for Pirates Season Ticket Members.
