Pirates Charities CARE-a-van tour schedule set for 2014

Pirates also team-up with fans for special Care-A-Van donations program

The Pittsburgh Pirates today announced the schedule for the Pirates Charities CARE-a-van, presented by Highmark, which will take place from Wednesday, December 10 through Friday, December 12. The 2014 CARE-a-van will take part in more than 20 private community events over three days leading up to the 25th annual PirateFest, presented by T-Mobile.

A total of 11 cities in the greater Pittsburgh area will be impacted, including stops in Altoona, PA - home of the Pirates Double-A affiliate the Altoona Curve; Butler, Pa.; Youngstown, Ohio and Wheeling, WV.

Pirates players scheduled to take part in this year's CARE-a-van include Francisco Cervelli, John Holdzkom, Andrew Lambo, Charlie Morton, Gregory Polanco and Chris Stewart along with prospects Tyler Glasnow and Jameson Taillon and coaches Jeff Branson, Brad Fischer, Nick Leyva, Euclides Rojas, Ray Searage and Rick Sofield.

The three-day CARE-a-van will feature three separate groups of players and coaches traveling to private community action events throughout the region. Pirates personnel and Pirates Charities, the philanthropic arm of the Pirates, will partner with local non-profits to assist with projects and services, as well as visit with schools and community organizations.

At each visit players, coaches and front office employees will donate their time and talents to help make a difference in each community.

In addition, fans will have an opportunity to become involved in the 2014 Pirates Charities CARE-a-van spirit of giving as the team is asking fans to donate to Pirates Charities in order to assist current and former military personnel and their families this holiday season.

All proceeds from the Care-a-van donations and the 2014 PirateFest will benefit the It's About the Warrior Foundation (IATW). In addition to assisting IATW, each donation will enter fans in an opportunity to win a signed jersey from one of our Pirates Care-A-Van participants. This means TWELVE (12) random winners will be chosen at the conclusion of the CARE-a-van and each winner will get ONE autographed Care-a-van worn authentic jersey!

Fans who make a donation of $10 or more to Pirates Charities at pirates.com/CAREavanDonations between NOW and Friday, December 12 at 11:59 p.m. (ET) will be entered to win.

Please visit pirates.com/caravan for complete Caravan details. Events are not open to the general public.
