Giveaways, Fireworks and Sunday Night Baseball Highlight Pirates Third Homestand

The Pirates return to PNC Park from a five-game road trip to host the Toronto Blue Jays, San Francisco Giants and St. Louis Cardinals. This homestand will be highlighted by the Pirates fedora giveaway on Saturday, May 3; Zambelli Fireworks on Saturday, May 10 and the first ever Sunday Night Baseball game in PNC Park history on Sunday, May 11.

Friday, May 2, 2014-Pirates vs. Toronto Blue Jays (7:05 p.m.)

  • Free Shirt Friday: The Pirates popular Free Shirt Friday continues as the first 25,000 fans, with paid admission, will receive a Pirates tee, compliments of Peoples Natural Gas.
  • Fields for Kids Deadline: Today is the deadline for grant applications for round two of the 2014 Fields for Kids program. The Pirates Charities program provides financial support to improve youth baseball and/or softball facilities via matching grants to nonprofit organizations and local government units that operate baseball and/or softball programs. Saturday, May 3, 2014-Pirates vs. Toronto Blue Jays (7:05 p.m.)

  • Field Maintenance Clinic: The Pirates and Baseball Tomorrow Fund will host a field maintenance clinic from 9:30 a.m. to noon at PNC Park. The educational clinic for local youth baseball and softball organizations will be led by members of the Pirates grounds crew and will feature information on field preparation and maintenance.
  • Fedora Giveaway: Tonight the first 25,000 fans, with paid admission, to enter PNC Park will receive a Pirates fedora, compliments of PNC Bank.
  • Scratch and Win: Everyone is a winner with the special Scratch 'n Win presented by Eat 'n Park. All fans will receive a scratch-off ticket upon entering PNC Park with an opportunity to win one of several great prizes.

Sunday, May 4, 2014-Pirates vs. Toronto Blue Jays (1:35 p.m.) Kids Day

  • Grilli Jersey: All kids 14 and younger, with paid admission, will receive a kids Jason Grilli replica Sunday alternate jersey, presented by Chevrolet.
  • Kids Day: Come down early and join the fun as the #1 Cochran Family Fun Zone will be open on Federal Street from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Lined up outside PNC Park will be inflatable rides, face painting, information about the Bucaroos Kids Club, presented by Chick-fil-A and more.
  • Kids Run the Bases: Kids attending today's game are invited to stick around after to run the bases on the field at PNC Park with the Kids Run the Bases, presented by Kennywood.
  • Pirates Latin Players Celebration: Tonight from 6 to 9 p.m. the Pirates, the Pittsburgh Metropolitan Area Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and the Pittsburgh Hispanic Development Corporation will host an evening of Hispanic celebration in the Keystone Corner (Club level) at PNC Park. The night will include Latin food, music and dancing as well as an opportunity to mingle with Pirates players, coaches, and front office executives. Attendees are asked to bring a new piece of baseball or softball equipment that will be donated to the Roberto Clemente Sports Complex in Puerto Rico via the P-squared Project.

Thursday, May 8, 2014-Off Day

  • Million Dollar Arm: Tonight the Pirates will host a private advanced screening of the Disney movie Million Dolla Arm, at 7 p.m. at the AMC Waterfront 22. The movie is based on sports agent J.B. Bernstein and Pirates minor leaguer Rinku Singh and former minor leaguer Dinesh Patel. Tickets were made available through special invitation only and the night will include a VIP reception and an appearance by Singh.

Friday, May 9, 2014-Pirates vs. St. Louis Cardinals (7:05 p.m.)

  • Make-A-Wish Scholarship Reception: Pirates Charities will welcome 50 former "wish kids" for the Kurt Weiss Scholarship Awards Night at PNC Park. The opportunity to earn a scholarship is offered to any wish kid who is a senior in high school and intends to pursue post-secondary education. It is named in honor of Kurt Weiss, a wish kid who now practices medicine in the Pittsburgh area. Kurt will be present to recognize the students' accomplishments, along with Pirates President Frank Coonelly and Judi Stone, President and CEO of the Make-A-Wish of Greater Pennsylvania and Southern West Virginia. After the scholarship winners are announced, Stone will present the Mylan Best Essay award winner. The students will be recognized on the field prior to tonight's game.

Saturday, May 10, 2014-Pirates vs. St. Louis Cardinals (7:05 p.m.)

  • Junior Pirates: Today from noon to 1 p.m. a member of the Pirates will join the Pirates community group at Herschel Field (747 Herschel Street, Pittsburgh, PA) to meet and participate in hitting and fielding instructions with youth from the Elliott Athletic Association.
  • Zambelli Fireworks Night: Fans are encouraged to stay in their seats immediately following the game and enjoy an amazing fireworks display presented by Zambelli Fireworks International, courtesy of Dick's Sporting Goods.
  • Pirates Charities Baseball Math World Series: The Pittsburgh Regional Fantasy Baseball World Series will take place at 9 a.m. in the Rivertowne Brewing Hall of Fame Club. Since February, students from all across the region have participated in Pirates Charities Fantasy Baseball Math Program, supported by Neal and Becca Huntington. This math-based curriculum teaches important concepts for children in grades four thru eight using baseball statistics, and promotes higher order science, technology, engineering and math skills (STEM) in preparation for math-based careers. Each participating classroom from this year's program will send a team to compete at the playoff tournament. The morning will culminate with a World Series game, and the winners will be named Fantasy Baseball World Series Champions.
  • VIP Night: Pirates and Pirates Charities Chairman Bob Nutting will host a VIP (Very Important Pirate) Party for the Highmark Caring Place, Erie, PA location. The group will be special guests of Mr. Nutting and will watch the game from the Pirates Charities Suite. Mr. Nutting will host a VIP Party each month during the season in order to provide deserving children with a night at the ballpark in true VIP-style - complete with a private meet-and-greet with Pirates players and coaches, a Pirates replica jersey and VIP goodie bag for each child. There will also be an opportunity to participate in a pregame ceremony and enjoy a great ballpark menu items provided by Levy Restaurants through their Levy Cares program.

  • Live from Federal: Tonight ESPN's Baseball Tonight will broadcast live from Federal Street starting at 7 p.m. with their set positioned near the base of the Roberto Clemente Bridge.
  • Mother's Day: All mothers in attendance tonight will receive a special Mother's Day Pirates reusable tote bag, presented by MLB Network.
  • Jump Rope For Heart: Students from the tri-state area are offered the opportunity to attend a Pirates game through their participation in fundraising tied to Jump Rope for Heart and Hoops for Heart through the American Heart Association. The top three fundraisers from each school will be recognized on the warning track prior to the start of the game. Vote Pirates
Voting has begun for the 2014 MLB All Star game in Minnesota and to encourage fans to vote for their favorite Buccos, the Pirates are offering extra incentives to cast ballots. Fans voting for their favorite Pirates can take advantage of a special buy one, get one free ticket offer. The Pirates want fans to vote early and vote often. Fans are now able to vote a maximum of 35 times online with the 2014 All-Star Game MLB.com Ballot. Online voting ends July 3 at 11:59 p.m. ET. Military Ticket Discount
The Pirates are proud to team up with GovX.com to offer discounted tickets to active-duty, reserve, veteran, and retired service members and their families. College Student Discount
For select games during the 2014 season, students with a valid college email address will receive a special discount off the advance ticket price of select games. Pitch for Hope
On Sunday, May 25 the Pirates will host the fourth annual Pitch for Hope women's baseball clinic on the field at PNC. The morning instruction with members of the Pirates coaching staff takes place on the field from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. and will give participants the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of pitching, hitting and fielding as they visit different workshop stations set up around the field. Pirates players will visit the women at the end of the clinic for a special Q&A session. The cost of the clinic is $65 per person and each participant will have the chance to enjoy a catered brunch on the Pirates Deck, receive a special tee-shirt and stay for the Pirates game at 1:35 p.m. vs. the Washington Nationals. Dynamic Pricing Section
The Pirates popular dynamic pricing system is back in 2014 and includes both the Bleacher Reserve and Upper Bleacher Reserve sections of PNC Park.
