Hurdle loses challenge on stolen-base attempt

Call on the field stands as Alvarez ruled out at second base in seventh inning

PITTSBURGH -- Pirates manager Clint Hurdle challenged a play at second base in the seventh inning of Thursday's game against the Brewers, and the umpires ruled that the call would stand after replay review.

The Pirates attempted a double steal with one out. Andrew McCutchen took third, but Pedro Alvarez was thrown out at second base by Brewers catcher Jonathan Lucroy.

The umpires determined the out call would stand after a replay review of two minutes and 47 seconds, and Neil Walker then struck out to end the inning. The Pirates scored three runs in the seventh to break up a tie game.
