Pirates recall Tony Sanchez;Travis Snider placed on Disabled List
The Pittsburgh Pirates today placed outfielder Travis Snider on the 15-day disabled list with discomfort in his left big toe. To take Snider's place on the 25-man active roster, the Pirates have recalled catcher Tony Sanchez from Triple-A Indianapolis. Sanchez will be active for today's game in Miami.
Sanchez was hitting .288 (75-for-26) with 26 doubles, 10 home runs, 42 RBI and 35 runs scored at the time of his promotion to the Pirates. At the time of his recall, the 25-year-old Sanchez ranked 10th among all International League hitters with a .504 slugging percentage. The native of Miami, Florida, also was named the MVP in the Triple-A All-Star Game earlier this month on July 17.
This is Sanchez' second stint this year with the Pirates. He was recalled on June 21 and made his Major League debut on June 23 at Anaheim, where he doubled in his first career at bat off Joe Blanton. He went 2-for-8 with a double and run scored in two games with Pittsburgh before being optioned back to Triple-A on June 26. Sanchez will wear uniform #59.
