Pirates select contract of pitcher Chris Volstad

The Pittsburgh Pirates today selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Chris Volstad from Triple-A Indianapolis. To make room on the 25-man active roster, the club has placed first baseman/outfielder Corey Hart on the 15-day disabled list with left shoulder impingement (retro to June 22). The announcement was made by Executive Vice President, General Manager Neal Huntington.

The 28-year-old Volstad went 5-2 with a 3.43 ERA (76.0ip/29er) in 14 appearances (12 starts) this year with Triple-A Indianapolis. He has been charged with two earned runs or less in six of his last seven starts.

Volstad, who was signed by the Pirates as a minor league free agent on January 28, 2015, last appeared in a big league game on June 15, 2013 as a member of the Colorado Rockies.
