Alvarez's tear earns slugger NL Player of Week honors
Bucs third baseman homers in four straight games, driving in league-best 10 runs
Pedro Alvarez's blistering week at the plate earned the Pirates' third baseman his third career National League Player of the Week Award.
Alvarez recorded at least one hit in each of Pittsburgh's seven games last week, part of an eight-game hitting streak overall. The slugger has also recorded a home run in each of his past four games, tied for the fourth longest home run streak in franchise history.
The 26-year-old started the week with three one-hit games in Cincinnati before turning in a 3-for-4 effort, including a home run, driving in five runs in a series-finale win against the Reds. He then turned it up a notch on the West Coast, recording three more multi-hit games with a homer in each, as he led Pittsburgh to a sweep of the Angels.
Alvarez hit .414 (12-for-29) for the week with an NL-best 10 RBIs. His four home runs were tied for second most on the Senior Circuit.
With his torrid offensive numbers last week, Alvarez raised his season average to .237 and is now tied for second in the NL with 19 home runs to go along with 51 RBIs.
