Pirates win challenge to erase pickoff at first

Umpires overturn call after quick review, keeping Polanco on base

PHOENIX -- Pittsburgh manager Clint Hurdle's challenge Thursday night against the D-backs turned out to be an easy call.

Gregory Polanco, aboard with a leadoff single in the third inning, was called out by first-base umpire Lance Barrett on a pickoff throw by catcher Miguel Montero.

Hurdle challenged the call -- which was overturned following a review of merely 50 seconds. Replays showed the diving Polanco easily get his long left arm on the bag before first baseman Paul Goldschmidt could apply the tag.

Polanco wound up stealing second base but was stranded. The Pirates led, 2-0, going to the bottom of the third.
