Rangers complete deal with Cuban infielder Ibanez

The Rangers have signed Cuban infielder Andy Ibanez, an international free agent, to a deal worth $1.6 million. The sides agreed to terms on Tuesday and completed the deal on Wednesday.

Ibanez, 22, was the youngest member of the Cuban National Team in the 2013 World Baseball Classic. He is known for his disciplined plate approach and gap-to-gap line-drive power. Ibanez, likely a second baseman, is also a capable fielder and has basestealing ability.

Ibanez hit .300 with four home runs in 2012 for Isla de la Juventud. In 2013, he hit .267 with a .377 on-base percentage.
