Rays add Constanza from independent ball, send to Triple-A

BALTIMORE -- The Rays purchased the contract of Jose Constanza on Monday, and the 31-year-old outfielder was assigned to Triple-A Durham.

Constanza's contract was purchased from the York Revolution of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. It's first time in the Revolution's nine-year history that the Rays have purchased the contract of one of its players in-season.

Constanza also played for Triple-A Louisville this season, hitting .256 with no home runs and 14 RBIs in 41 games. With the Revolution, he hit .324 with 20 stolen bases in 30 games.

He's hit .273 with two home runs and 17 RBIs in 112 Major League games, all with the Braves.

Constanza's best Major League season was 2011, when he hit .303 with two home runs and 10 RBIs in 42 games.
