Ross called up to be 26th man in doubleheader

The Red Sox recalled left-hander Robbie Ross Jr. to aid them in Wednesday's day-night doubleheader against the Twins.

Ross, 25, has posted a 5.29 ERA in 15 appearances for the Red Sox this season. He's also pitched in two games for Triple-A Pawtucket, and he has a 3.00 ERA in three innings there.

Ross, who has a career record of 13-8 with a 4.08 ERA in 165 games in the Major Leagues, was acquired by the Red Sox from the Rangers in January. He last pitched for Boston on Saturday night, when he allowed two runs in three innings of relief against Texas.

Ross, a second-round draftee in 2008, has posted a 31-24 record and a 3.07 ERA in 83 career games in the Minor Leagues. He's allowed just 24 home runs in 445 innings at the Minor League level, but he's allowed big league hitters to go deep 18 times in 222 2/3 innings.
