Red Sox sign Dominican outfield prospect Aybar

The Red Sox have signed international prospect Yoan Aybar, a center fielder from the Dominican Republic, the team confirmed Monday.

WEEI.com's Alex Speier first reported the signing of the 16-year-old Aybar, whom he says is an athletic, projectable player who stands 6-foot-2, 165 pounds.

According to Speier's report, which cites an industry source, Aybar hits and throws left-handed and features a line-drive swing with power potential. He also has above-average arm strength.
