Club to reassess Breslow after Monday's outing

BOSTON -- Left-handed reliever Craig Breslow will make one more rehab appearance with Triple-A Pawtucket on Monday before the team reassesses when to activate him. If he's not ready, though, the Red Sox won't rush him.

"We feel like we've got a very good relief corps that is currently with us," manager John Farrell said. "The overall strike-throwing ability of the group down there is very good. And when you're pressed into using four and five guys on a given night, the ability to have two guys who can go multiple innings is key for us.

"It puts a little bit of strain and stress on the day following, which is where we are today, but we're comfortable with where we are right now."

Boston's bullpen contributed 6 2/3 innings of one-run ball in Saturday's 7-6 loss to Milwaukee. Chris Capuano (two innings), Brandon Workman (1 2/3), Koji Uehara (one) and Junichi Tazawa (one) all had scoreless appearances before the relief corps yielded a run.

It was the latest installment of what has been a mostly strong start for the bullpen, which has allowed only one of seven inherited runners to score.

Uehara, who has struck out five in three scoreless innings, was available Sunday despite pitching three of the last four days.
