Reliever Rodriguez off DL, headed to Triple-A

ARLINGTON -- Tommy John rehab is officially behind Fernando Rodriguez, who was taken off the disabled list Tuesday and optioned to Triple-A Sacramento.

The A's reliever, who underwent the elbow reconstructive procedure March 27, 2013, got through his entire rehab in 13 months without any setbacks.

He'll be pitching for a shot to join the A's bullpen for the first time, as his surgery came less than two months following his trade with Jed Lowrie from Houston last spring.

"Now it's full-go for him without the rehab process, and that's definitely a resource we have during the season," said manager Bob Melvin. "Gives us the added depth in the bullpen, definitely."

Rodriguez made eight rehab appearances before being added to Sacramento's roster, allowing just one earned run while striking out 10 and walking two in 8 2/3 innings.
