Renfroe, Turner make quick impacts in Minors

First-round Draft selections from 2013, '14 notch hits with new clubs

Outfielder Hunter Renfroe and shortstop Trea Turner, two recent first-round Draft picks by the Padres, both made their home debuts for their new teams Wednesday night, and both singled, scored a run and helped their teams to 5-2 victories.

Renfroe, the Padres' 2013 first-round pick, debuted for Double-A San Antonio after getting promoted from Class A Advanced Lake Elsinore. He went 1-fo-3 and San Antonio defeated Corpus Christi, 5-2, at Nelson W. Wolff Municipal Stadium.

Renfroe, the Padres' No. 5 prospect, played the first half of the season with Lake Elsinore. He hit .295/.370/.565 and was leading the California League with 16 home runs when he was promoted.

Two weeks ago, the Padres selected Turner with the 13th pick in the 2014 First-Year Player Draft. Wednesday was his first game at PK Park, the home of short-season Eugene, and just his second professional game overall. He singled to lead off the bottom of the first and finished the game 1-for-3 with two walks and three stolen bases as Eugene defeated Boise, 5-2.

The Padres drafted Turner out of North Carolina State, where he hit .321/.418/.516 with eight home runs and 26 stolen bases in 54 games this spring.
