Reviewed homer stands for Asdrubal, Indians

CLEVELAND -- A home run hit by shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera prompted a crew-chief review during Monday's series opener against the Angels, and the Indians came away holding an early lead.

With a man on and none out in the first inning, Cabrera lifted a 1-1 pitch from Jered Weaver just over the left-center-field wall. The ball bounced off the railing and back onto the field, which was what prompted the review.

After one minute and 58 seconds, the umpires ruled that the play would stand as called, and the Indians exited the first inning with a 2-0 lead over the Angels.

"Big for us, getting on the board first," Tribe manager Terry Francona said. "I actually didn't see it, because I was watching [Michael] Bourn. He was running on the play and got hung up on the play at second. I see the ball rolling around on the outfield. So I actually didn't know it was a home run."

It was Cabrera's seventh home run of the season.
