RHP Jon Edwards recalled from Round Rock

OF Jake Smolinski optioned to Round Rock

The Texas Rangers announced today that right-handed pitcher Jon Edwards has been recalled from Triple-A Round Rock and is active for this afternoon's game in Cleveland.

To make room for Edwards, outfielder Jake Smolinski has been optioned to Round Rock.

Edwards (#36) has no record with a 1.15 ERA (15.2 IP, 10 H, 2 R-ER, 5 BB, 20 SO) and 13 saves in 17 relief appearances with the Express. He ranks second in the Pacific Coast League in saves (13 in 14 opportunities) and has worked 13.2 shutout innings in his last 15 outings beginning April 17. Edwards has held the opposition to an .080 (2-25) batting average over 9 games in May. This is his second stint with the Rangers this season. He was recalled from Round Rock on April 11 and walked the only 2 batters he faced that night versus Houston before returning to the Express the following day.

Edwards, 27, made his major league debut with Texas in 2014, posting a 4.32 ERA in 9 appearances.

Smolinski was 1-for-3 with an RBI in 3 games since being recalled from Round Rock on May 22. He is batting .151 with one homer and 6 RBI in 28 games over 2 stints with the Rangers this season.

With today's moves, the Rangers major league roster remains at 39 players.
