Mahoning Valley RHP Luis DeJesus Named Minor League Player of the Week

CLEVELAND, OH-The Cleveland Indians today announced Mahoning Valley RHP LUIS DeJESUS has been named the Indians Minor League Player of the Week, July 28 - August 5. The Player of the Week award recognizes an individual performance from within the Indians Player Development System and is announced each Tuesday through the end of the Minor League season.

DeJesus, 20, went 1-0 with a 1.38 ERA (13.0 IP, 8 H, 2R/2ER, 0 BB, 8 K) in 2 starts this week. On July 28th vs. Brooklyn, DeJesus earned a no decision after tossing 6.0 innings (6.0 IP, 5 H, 2 R/2ER, 0 BB, 2 K) in a 3-2 Scrappers win.  He followed that up with his best outing of the season on August 3rd, tossing a career-high 7.0 shutout innings (7.0 IP, 3 H, 0R/0ER, 0 BB, 6 K) in a win over Vermont. On the season, DeJesus is 4-0 with a 1.41 ERA (51.0 IP, 34 H, 11R/8ER, 10 BB, 33 K, 1HR) in 9 starts. He is 3rd in the New York-Penn League in ERA (1.41) and innings pitched (51.0), 2nd in WHIP (0.86) and 4th in average against (.187).

DeJesus was selected by the Indians in the 11th round of the 2011 First-Year Player Draft out of Angelina College (TX). In 2011, he finished 2nd in the Arizona League in WHIP (1.13) after going 3-2 with a 3.33 ERA (46.0 IP, 41 H, 20R/17ER, 11 BB, 45 K) in 13 games, including 9 starts, in his 1st professional season.
