Shaffer smacks career-high three home runs for Bulls

Rays No. 19 prospect notches his second multi-homer game in less than 3 weeks in Triple-A Durham's win

The Durham Bulls must be happy that Richie Shaffer is on their squad.

Shaffer, the Rays' No. 19 prospect, smacked three home runs on Friday night in an 11-7 win over Triple-A Louisville, bringing his season total to 14. That mark is good for fourth in all of the Minor Leagues and he's well on his way to topping his 2014 total of 19.

Before this season, Shaffer had never registered a multi-homer game, but a promotion to Durham has reinvigorated his power. He homered twice in his Bulls debut on May 24 and squeezed in two more dingers before Friday's onslaught. He has launched seven homers in less than three weeks playing for Triple-A Durham.

The Rays drafted Shaffer in the first round of the 2012 Draft out of Clemson and it seems likely that his Minor League career is coming to an end. He has 48 homers and 204 RBIs in his professional career.
