Rockies acquire LHP Brett Anderson from Oakland

Club Sends LHP Drew Pomeranz and RHP Chris Jensen to Oakland to Complete Deal

ORLANDO - The Colorado Rockies announced today that the club has acquired left-handed pitcher Brett Anderson and cash considerations from the Oakland Athletics in exchange for left-handed pitcher Drew Pomeranz and Minor League right-handed pitcher Chris Jensen.

 

Anderson, 25, has pitched in the Majors with Oakland in each of the last five seasons and owns a career record of 26-29 with a 3.81 ERA (450.2 ip, 191 er), 120 walks and 357 strikeouts in 84 games/73 starts. In 2013, he made 16 appearances with 5 starts, including starting Opening Day for Oakland. He went 1-4 with 3 saves and a 6.04 ERA (44.2 ip, 30 er) while missing time during the middle of the season with a right foot stress fracture. In his rookie campaign during the 2009 season, Anderson went 11-11 with a 4.06 ERA (175.1 ip, 79 er), 45 walks and 150 strikeouts in a career-high 30 starts and finished sixth in the American League Rookie of the Year voting. The 6-for-4 Midland, TX native was originally drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the second record of the 2006 First-Year Player Draft out of Stillwater High School (Stillwater, OK).

 

Pomeranz, 25, spent time last year with Colorado, Triple-A Colorado Springs and Double-A Tulsa. He made 24 combined appearances with 20 starts and went 8-6 with 5.00 ERA (111.2 ip, 62 er). Over parts of three seasons with the Rockies, he went 4-14 with 5.20 ERA (136.2 ip, 79 er), 70 walks and 115 strikeouts in 34 Major League games, 30 starts. Pomeranz was originally selected by the Cleveland Indians in the first round (fifth overall) of the 2010 First-Year Player Draft.

Jensen, 23, pitched the entire season at High-A Modesto in 2013, going 5-8 with a 4.55 ERA (152.1 ip, 77 er), 39 walks and 136 strikeouts in 28 starts. The Rockies originally selected Jensen in the sixth round of the 2011 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of San Diego. Jensen has made 61 starts across three Minor League stops since the Rockies selected him in. 

The Rockies have 38 players on the 40-man roster.
