Rockies Designate LHP Yohan Flande for Assignment

The Colorado Rockies announced today that the club has agreed to terms on a one-year Major League deal with right-handed pitcher Kyle Kendrick. To make room on the 40-man roster for Kendrick, the Rockies have designated left-handed pitcher Yohan Flande for assignment. The terms of Kendrick's deal were not disclosed, per club policy.

Kendrick, 30, is a veteran of eight Major League seasons, all with Philadelphia (2007-2014). The 6-foot-3 right-hander went 10-13 with a 4.61 ERA (199.0 ip, 102 er), 57 walks and 121 strikeouts in 32 starts for the Phillies in 2014. Both the 32 starts and 199.0 innings pitched were career-high marks. Kendrick has won at least 10 games in each of his last three seasons, as well as in six of his eight Major League seasons (2007-08, 2010, 2012-14). Over his Major League career, the Houston, Texas native is 74-68 with a 4.42 ERA (1138.2 ip, 559 er), 323 walks and 622 strikeouts in 226 games/185 starts.

Kendrick has started at least 30 games in a season four times in his Major League career (30 in 2008, 31 in 2010, 30 in 2013, 32 in 2014), and pitched at least 150.0 innings in five seasons (155.2 ip in 2008, 180.2 ip in 2010, 159.1 ip in 2012, 182.0 ip in 2013, 199.0 ip in 2014). Kendrick was originally the Phillies' seventh round selection in the 2003 First-Year Player Draft out of Mount Vernon High School (Wash.).

Flande, 29, made his Major League debut for Colorado in 2014, going 0-6 with a 5.19 ERA (59.0 ip, 34 er), 16 walks and 34 strikeouts in 16 games/10 starts. Flande spent the balance of 2014 at Triple-A Colorado Springs, where he went 3-11 with a 5.60 ERA (88.1 ip, 55 er), 33 walks and 67 strikeouts in 18 games/16 starts. Flande was signed by Colorado as a non-drafted free agent on Nov. 25, 2013.
