Rockies Announce Non-Roster Players For 2014 Spring Training

Twenty-Four Players Receive Non-Roster Invitations

DENVER - The Colorado Rockies announced today the club's non-roster players for this year's Major League Spring Training camp. Below is the current list of 24 players, broken down by position.

Four of the 12 pitchers that received non-roster invites have Major League service time, including Manuel Corpas (5.144), who made 31 appearances for the Rockies during the 2013 season. Greg Burke (1.074), Pedro Hernandez (0.077) and Nick Masset (6.146) all have Big League service time as well. Burke made 32 appearances for the New York Mets in 2013, while Hernandez appeared in 14 games/12 starts for the Twins last season. Masset has missed the last two seasons due to injury but last pitched in 2011 for Cincinnati, when he owned a 3.71 ERA in 75 appearances.

Five of the pitchers were originally drafted by Colorado, including Christian Bergman (24th round of 2010), Eddie Butler (Supplemental first round, 46th overall, in 2012), Jonathan Gray (First round, 3rd overall, in 2013), Scott Oberg (15th round of 2012) and Josh Sullivan (5th round of 2005). Chris Martin was acquired along with left-handed pitcher Franklin Morales from Boston in exchange for infielder Jonathan Herrera on December 18, 2013. Brown, Burke, Corpas, Flande, Hernandez and Masset were all signed to Minor League free agent contracts this offseason.

The only infielder with previous Major League experience is Paul Janish (4.115), who played in 55 games with Atlanta in 2013. Ben Paulsen was originally drafted by Colorado (3rd round of 2009) and Angelys Nina was originally signed as a non-drafted free agent (on February 9, 2007) by Colorado. Rafael Ynoa signed as a Minor League free agent this offseason.

Of the two outfielders, Jason Pridie (1.052) has played in parts of five Major League seasons, including four games with Baltimore in 2013. Tim Wheeler was originally selected by Colorado in the first round (32nd overall) of the 2009 draft.

Michael McKenry (2.136) and Matt McBride (0.042) are the only catchers with previous Major League experience. McKenry is returning to the organization that originally drafted him in 2006 (7th round). McBride played in 31 games for the Rockies in 2012. Ryan Casteel (17th round in 2010), Dustin Garneau (19th round in 2009) and Tom Murphy (3rd round in 2012) were originally drafted by Colorado. Jackson Williams and McKenry signed as Minor League free agents this offseason.

Pitchers and catchers are scheduled to report on Saturday, Feb. 15. The first full squad workout is Monday, Feb. 23.
