Dickerson to DL with fractured ribs

Outfielder suffered injury during Thursday's loss to Cardinals

ST. LOUIS -- Rockies left fielder Corey Dickerson's frustrating season took another painful turn Friday, when an MRI revealed that he suffered non-displaced fractures of two ribs ono the right side while diving for a line drive during Thursday's 9-8 loss to the Cardinals.

The injury was announced as a rib contusion on Thursday. Dickerson said he didn't know his injury was as extensive as it was until he was tested at Busch Stadium on Friday before a 7-0 loss to the Cardinals. From on his back, he tried sitting up using his abdominal muscles, and the pain revealed that the injury was worse than he knew the night before.

Dickerson has been on the 15-day disabled list twice with left foot plantar fasciitis, and will go to the DL for the current injury. In 43 healthy games, Dickerson has hit .315 with five home runs and 18 RBIs.

"To do as well as I was and still having injuries and playing through them, it stinks because I had high hopes for this season," Dickerson said. "But I can't control that. All I can do is try to be better, try to control what I can control, and do better when I'm back in there."

Dickerson said it's "too early to tell" when he will return.

The Rockies did not make an announcement of a replacement for Dickerson. However, Kyle Parker, the team's top pick in the 2012 Draft and 21st-ranked Rockies' prospect according to MLB.com, was held out of the lineup for Triple-A Albuquerque's game on Friday night. Parker is hitting .280 with nine home runs and 58 RBIs, including a .325 surge over his last 10 games.
