LeMahieu's success with RISP not due to new approach

DENVER -- Rockies second baseman DJ LeMahieu, who is better known for his defense, began the season with an uncanny knack for hitting in the clutch. He typically bats low in the order -- eight starts batting eighth, three hitting ninth, two hitting sixth and one hitting seventh -- but entered Saturday second on the team with 12 RBIs and an average of .588 (10-for-17) with runners in scoring position.

"I'm not going to hit a ton of homers," said LeMahieu, who has hit one this season and 10 in his career. "So for me to impact the game, I've got to drive in runs when they're out there. I try to treat every at-bat the same. But I know those are the biggest at-bats of the game."

With runners in scoring position, LeMahieu doesn't look to do anything differently, such as turn on an inside pitch early in the count.

"I don't get too cute. I try to be myself in those situations," he said. "I don't try to change my approach or anything. I'm always going to go the other way. For me, that's kind of my area, so I don't have to change much.

LeMahieu entered Saturday hitting .414 (24-for-58) with three doubles and just eight strikeouts.
