Rockies select the contract of RHP Brooks Brown, RHP Nick Masset placed on the 15-day DL

RHP Raul Fernandez Designated for Assignment

DENVER - The Colorado Rockies announced today that the club has selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Brooks Brown from Triple-A Colorado Springs and placed right-handed pitcher Nick Masset on the 15-day disabled list with a left patellar tendon strain. Additionally, right-handed pitcher Raul Fernandez has been designated for assignment. Brown (#51) will be available for the Rockies in today's game against the Dodgers at Coors Field (2:10 p.m. MT).

Brown, 29, will make his Major League debut with his first appearance for the Rockies. The right-hander was acquired by the Rockies as a free agent during the offseason and has spent the year in Colorado Springs making 31 relief appearances for the Sky Sox. He is 1-0 with a 4.35 ERA (39.1 ip, 19 er) and 6 saves in those games. His 8.0 strikeouts per nine innings (35 K) were on pace to be a career best since his professional debut in 2006. Brooks was originally drafted out of the University of Georgia by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the supplemental first round (34th overall) of the 2006 First-Year Player Draft. He has spent 9 seasons in the in the minor leagues for Arizona (2006-08), Detroit (2009-12), Pittsburgh (2013) and Colorado (2014). He has compiled a 50-64 record and a 4.29 ERA (927.2 ip, 442 er) in 233 total games (139 starts).

Masset, 32, was placed on the 15-day disabled list after leaving yesterday's game early. He has made 28 relief appearances for the Rockies this season going 1-0 with a 4.94 ERA (23.2 ip, 13 er). His season debut for the Rockies May 5 against Texas was his first Major League appearance since September 27, 2011 with the Cincinnati Reds. He did not pitch in 2012 or 2013 due to a right shoulder injury. Masset was acquired as a free agent by the Rockies in the offseason and pitched in 8 games for Colorado Springs (1-0, 0.00 ERA) before his debut in Denver.

Fernandez, 24, was invited to his first Major League Spring Training earlier this year and pitched in 3 games with a 6.00 ERA (3.0 ip, 2 er). He has made 29 appearances with Modesto this season going 0-1 with 7 saves and a 7.00 ERA (27.0 ip, 21 er). In six seasons with the Rockies organization, he has gone 13-15 with 27 saves and a 4.85 ERA (261.2 ip, 141 er) in 145 Minor League games (25 starts). Fernandez was originally signed as an international free agent by Colorado in 2007.

The Rockies currently have a full 40-man roster.
