Wash, Rangers lose challenge on Andrus' liner

ARLINGTON -- After two replays went his team's way the previous night, Rangers manager Ron Washington unsuccessfully challenged a ruling Tuesday against the Athletics in the fifth inning.

In Tuesday's contested play, Elvis Andrus hit a low liner right down the first-base line; the ball landed a few feet past first base umpire Laz Diaz, who called it foul. After a review of one minute, 38 seconds, umpires ruled that the play stood.

In the first 14 innings of their three-game series at Globe Life Park, the Rangers and A's saw four instant-replay reviews. Washington won one of his two challenges Monday and the Rangers also benefited from a crew chief's review in that game.
