Matthews back in booth for KC's spring slate

HOF broadcaster returns for 46th year, will be joined by Lefebvre, Physioc and Stewart

KANSAS CITY -- It'll be the beginning of a 46th year of Royals broadcasting for Denny Matthews as the club carries a 20-game Spring Training schedule on 610 Sports Radio.

Matthews, a member of the broadcasters' wing of the National Baseball Hall of Fame, began in the Royals' initial season of 1969 and has been describing games since.

Again this year, Matthews will be joined in the booth by Ryan Lefebvre, Steve Physioc and Steve Stewart.

A full schedule of the team's Cactus League games, including those not on 610, will be webcast on royals.com. Stewart will anchor the webcasts.

The spring broadcasts will begin with the Cactus opener at 2:05 p.m. CT on Feb. 27 against the Rangers, who share the Surprise, Ariz., training facility with the Royals. In fact, the first six games of the Royals' 30-game schedule will be broadcast. Two games later in March are uncertain because of the University of Kansas basketball tournament schedule.

Games to be carried by 610: Feb. 27, vs. Texas; Feb. 28, at Texas; March 1, vs. Padres; March 2, at Cubs; March 3, at White Sox; March 4, vs. Reds; March 6, vs. White Sox; March 7, vs. Giants; March 9, vs. Rockies; March 10, at Mariners; March 11, vs. Dodgers; March 12, at A's; March 16, at Padres; March 17, vs. Rangers; March 19, vs. Reds; March 22, vs. Rangers, or March 23, at Giants (determined by NCAA schedule); March 24, at Rockies; March 25, vs. Mariners; March 26, at Padres; March 28 or March 29, at Brewers in Milwaukee (determined by NCAA schedule).
