Royals embark on first Giving Week

Team reps, alumni visiting community programs, presenting donations

KANSAS CITY -- The spirit of giving rolls along for the Royals.

Beginning Monday, the club will take part in its first Royals Charities Giving Week, which will run through Friday. Throughout the week, members of the Royals' front office will make visits throughout the Greater Kansas City area, host special events and present donations to community programs.

The Kansas City Royals Alumni Association also will send members to each event and will be making additional donations. Royals Charities will announce grant recipients from the fall 2015 grant cycle later in December.

Here's a list of the week's events:

Monday: Visit Operation Breakthrough to present a check for $25,000 and pass out rally towels to children from 11:30 a.m. CT to noon at 3039 Troost Ave., Kansas City.

Tuesday: Visit Hope House in Independence, Mo., at 10 a.m. to present a check and items to the shelter. A total of $40,000 in grant money will be announced and awarded to support Hope House and three other domestic violence agencies.

Wednesday: Visit KCK RBI's new field at the Barton-Ross Complex at 5325 Parallel Parkway in Kansas City, Kan., from 3-4 p.m. and present a $100,000 check for the field renovation.

Thursday: Travel to Fort Leavenworth, Kan., to visit with military families from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and donate $12,500 to the USO. The Royals' World Series championship trophy will be made available for photo opportunities.

Friday: Visit Variety Adaptive Field at 11031 S. Valley Parkway in Olathe, Kan., at 10 a.m., where a new adaptive playground will be located. A check for $60,000 will also be presented.

At 11:30 a.m., Royals Charities will assist with the Johnson County Christmas Bureau Family Holiday Shop at the Metcalf South Shopping Mall in Overland Park, Kan., and make a $5,000 grant donation.
