Royals claim Sierra off waivers from White Sox

Outfielder split 2014 season between Chicago and Toronto

KANSAS CITY -- The Royals claimed former White Sox outfielder Moises Sierra off outright waivers on Friday.

To make room for Sierra on the 40-man roster, pitcher Liam Hendriks was designated for assignment.

Sierra had 170 plate appearances between the Blue Jays and the White Sox in 2014. He finished with a .230/.265/.342 slash line over 96 games.

Sierra, who primarily plays right field, began the season 2-for-34 with Toronto before Chicago claimed him off waivers. With the White Sox, he hit .276/.311/.417 in 135 plate appearances.
