Royals' Minor League Report: August 7

Omaha Storm Chasers (69-49)

Verdugo limited Colorado Springs to one run over seven innings, as Omaha snapped a four-game losing streak. Verdugo scattered six hits and two walks while fanning five. Donnie Joseph followed with two scoreless innings. Every batter in the lineup had at least one hit, with Wil Myers collecting three. Maier gave Omaha a 2-1 lead with a two-run blast, his second homer in as many days. David Lough added two RBIs. The series concludes on Wednesday afternoon.

NW Arkansas Naturals (14-30 in second half, 51-63 overall)

The Naturals were off on Tuesday. They host the Midland Athletics tonight.

Wilmington Blue Rocks (21-22 in second half, 50-63 overall)

Wilmington 2, Winston-Salem 1
WP: Matt Ridings (4-1 with Wilmington, 8-4 overall)

Wilmington scored two with two outs in the ninth to take the opener from Winston-Salem. Luis Piterson scored the tying run on an error. Angel Franco laced a double, plating Murray Watts for the winning run. Starter Elisaul Pimentel held the Dash to two hits and two walks over five scoreless innings. Ridings (four innings, three hits, one earned run, two walks, five strikeouts) earned the win. Wilmington holds a half-game advantage over both Lynchburg and Potomac in the second-half race.

Kane County Cougars (23-21 in second half, 57-57 overall)

Kane County finished 3-1 against Cedar Rapids behind a dominant outing from Smith. The 2011 fourth-round Draft pick fanned 12 while scattering three hits over seven innings. Smith has 65 strikeouts in 45 2/3 innings. Danny Mateo posted two hits, three RBIs and two runs. He recorded his league-leading 10th triple.

Idaho Falls Chukars (6-4 in second half, 23-25 overall)

2012 second-round Draft pick Selman struck out 11 over five innings, as Idaho Falls moved to 2-0 against Ogden. Selman has a 1.31 ERA and 62 strikeouts in 41 1/3 innings. The Chukars scored three runs in the first inning and four in the second. Nic Cuckovich and Elier Hernandez each drove home a pair.

Burlington Royals (29-14)

Burlington split a pair of 3-2 contests at Danville. Yender Caramo limited the Braves to two runs on five hits through five innings in Game 1. Tomchick and Walter each worked a scoreless frame. Cam Gallagher recorded two hits and an RBI. Terrance Gore had three hits, an RBI and scored a run in Game 2. Gore swiped a pair of bases, bringing his league-leading total to 23.

Surprise Royals (14-23)

Surprise lost at Scottsdale as the D-backs broke open a 1-1 tie with five runs in the sixth. Tim Melville made a rehab appearance, tossing two scoreless innings with four strikeouts and a walk. Mauricio Ramos recorded two hits, including a double. He is batting .474 over his last 10 games (18-for-38).
