Omaha waited out a rain delay, then proceeded to score the final nine runs in an opening win at Oklahoma City. Carlos Peguero was 2-for-5 with three RBI and a run. Francisco Pena added two hits, two RBI and two runs. Justin Maxwell collected three hits and two runs while 15th-ranked Royals prospect Christian Colon recorded three hits plus an RBI. Brett Tomko (5.0 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 5 BB, 0 SO) picked up the win, with Buddy Baumann tossing 3.0 scoreless innings in relief.

The Blue Rocks won game one at Carolina, with Glenn Sparkman (5.0 IP, 3 H, 0 BB, 4 SO) and Zeb Sneed (4.0 IP, 3 H, 0 BB, 3 SO) combining on a shutout. Wilmington scored two in the seventh and four in the eighth. Daniel Rockett was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI. Reigning Carolina League Player of the Week and sixth-ranked Royals prospect Hunter Dozier posted two singles, an RBI and two runs.
