Royals' seven leading way in All-Star voting

MINNEAPOLIS -- Make that seven Royals now leading the way at their respective positions for the All-Star Game on July 14. A reminder that fans can cast their votes for starters at MLB.com and all 30 club sites -- on their computers, tablets and smartphones -- using the 2015 Esurance MLB All-Star Game Ballot until Thursday, July 2, at 10:59 p.m. CT. For the first time, voting is exclusively online, where fans may submit up to 35 ballots.

Royals first baseman Eric Hosmer has overtaken Detroit's Miguel Cabrera at first base, 3,551,005 votes to 2,933,108. Hosmer would become the first Royals first baseman ever to be voted into the All-Star Game.

In addition, Royals designated hitter Kendrys Morales has overtaken Seattle's Nelson Cruz, 3,269,634 votes to 3,128,121.

"It's pretty cool," manager Ned Yost said. "Our fans have stepped up in a big way for our players. They've really supported them, not only in the stands, but in the balloting, too."

Hosmer and Morales join their teammates -- catcher Salvador Perez, shortstop Alcides Escobar, third baseman Mike Moustakas, center fielder Lorenzo Cain and left fielder Alex Gordon -- as voting leaders at their positions.

The Royals would become the first team to have seven players voted to the All-Star team.

Also, second baseman Omar Infante has closed the gap on vote leader Jose Altuve of Houston. Altuve leads, 2,809,731 votes to 2,650,416.

Perez remains the AL leading vote-getter with 4,419,620 total votes, and he is followed in total votes by Cain with 4,211,472 and Moustakas with 4,046,726.

Gordon is third among outfielders with 3,393,134 votes. Teammate Alex Rios has climbed to fourth among outfielders at 2,311,122 votes.
