Ventura progressing toward return vs. Cards

TORONTO -- Pitcher Yordano Ventura is on track to return to his spot in the rotation next Thursday night against the Cardinals at Kauffman Stadium.

Manager Ned Yost said Ventura threw a light side session on Saturday and will throw again on Monday at St. Louis. If that goes well, he'll get the green light.

Ventura left his last start in the third inning with elbow discomfort which, after medical examinations and tests, was deemed not serious.
