Tejada's broken leg won't require surgery

NEW YORK -- Ruben Tejada will not need surgery, pins or any other complicating treatments for his fractured right fibula, ensuring he will have more than enough time to be ready for Opening Day 2016.

Hobbling out with a cane during pregame introductions, Tejada made it to Citi Field in time for National League Division Series Game 3 at Citi Field.

Tejada had previously fractured his fibula in 2013, missing the final two weeks of that season. He reinjured it in Game 2 of the NLDS, when Dodgers infielder Chase Utley -- whom Major League Baseball subsequently suspended -- tumbled into him in an attempt to break up a potential inning-ending double play. Fractured legs typically heal within four to six weeks.

In his best offensive campaign in three years, Tejada hit .261 this season with three home runs and a .688 OPS, starting 94 of his 116 games. He will be arbitration-eligible for the third time this winter, with his salary set to increase to over $2 million for the first time.
