Ryu on track for return from DL next week

PHOENIX -- Left-hander Hyun-Jin Ryu continues to make progress and remains on track to come off the disabled list next week.

Ryu threw a simulated game Friday and was scheduled to play catch on Saturday. He has showed no signs of the left shoulder-blade soreness that put him on the disabled list after an April 27 start.

Officially, the club still considers him day to day.

"We'll wait to see how it goes [Saturday]," Mattingly said. "By the end of the day, I'll know more. We feel pretty good about where he is at. We just want this throwing to go good."

One option is sliding Ryu into Paul Maholm's spot in the rotation against the Mets in New York next Wednesday. He could also be sent out for a Minor League rehab start.
