Safeco Field hosting fireworks show after Friday's game

SEATTLE -- A 10-person crew from Pyro Spectaculars was busy at work on Thursday setting up the approximately 1,500 charges that will be used for Friday night's fireworks show at Safeco Field, which will be the first such event in the park's 14-year history.

The fireworks display will begin about 15 minutes after the conclusion of Friday's 7:10 p.m. PT game against the Cubs and will last about 15 minutes, with fireworks being shot off from four different locations in and around Safeco Field.

The Mariners came to an agreement with the City of Seattle this season to allow a full fireworks show for the first time since Safeco Field opened in 1999.

Workers began putting charges in place on Thursday on the roof track above left field as well as the light standards above the Safeco Field sign in left field.

More charges will be placed on the infield dirt between first and second base, as well as on the top of the CenturyLink parking garage across the street from Safeco Field after Friday's game.

The program will take place even if there is light rain, according to Rebecca Hale, the Mariners director of public information. If the roof is closed for the game, it will be opened for the fireworks show.

The only weather conditions that would cancel the event would be heavy rain, high winds or thunder and lightning, but none of those are forecast for Friday night.

Fans in the left-field bleachers will have to move to different seats before the show begins.

This will be the first of two fireworks shows at Safeco Field this season, with another scheduled for Friday, Aug. 9, after the Mariners face the Brewers in a 7:10 p.m. PT game.
