San Diego Clasico Soccer exhibition tickets go on sale Thursday
Xolos de Tijuana will play Club América on July 6 at 7:30 p.m.
SAN DIEGO - The San Diego Padres announced today that tickets for the 2013 San Diego Clásico at Petco Park will go on sale to the general public on Thursday, May 16 at 10:00 a.m. The exhibition match featuring the Xolos de Tijuana of Liga MX and Club América is scheduled for Saturday, July 6 at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets for the Clásico will range in price from $20 to $50 and can be purchased at the Petco Park box office, online at www.padres.com/xolos, www.padresbeisbol.com, at the Padres Store in Tijuana and at all Ticketmaster locations. The seating guide for the match is attached.
The 2013 Clásico will be a rematch of last year's event at Qualcomm Stadium, which ended in a 1-1 draw. This will be the Xolos' fourth-ever appearance in the San Diego Clásico, including a March 2011 match vs. the Los Angeles Galaxy of the MLS and a February 2012 contest vs. Chivas USA.
Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles de Caliente, commonly referred to as Xolos de Tijuana or simply Xolos, was founded in January of 2007 and joined Liga MX, Mexico's top soccer division, in 2011. The Xolos are reigning league champions, having won the Apertura 2012 title last December, the league's fall tournament. The club is currently competing in the Copa Libertadores, the most prestigious club competition in South America, and is among the final 16 teams. The Xolos feature Tijuana-born Fernando Arce and San Diegan, Sweetwater High and San Diego State alum Joe Corona.
América is one of the oldest and most successful clubs in Mexican soccer history. Founded in 1916 and playing their home contests in famed Estadio Azteca, América has won ten domestic national titles and added eight FIFA recognized club trophies.
The Xolos and América match will be the third soccer event contested at Petco Park. In 2005, the park hosted an international match between Mexico and Sweden, drawing a crowd of more than 30,000. The 'ChivaClásico', an exhibition between Chivas USA and Chivas de Guadalajara, was played in 2010 in front of 23,216 fans.
