Pitching prospect Wisler being promoted to Triple-A

SAN DIEGO -- The Padres are promoting one of their top pitching prospects to Triple-A.

Right-hander Matt Wisler, the No. 3 prospect in the organization according to MLB.com, will join Triple-A El Paso after making six successful starts with Double-A San Antonio.

Wisler, 21, was 1-0 with a 2.10 ERA. He allowed 26 hits and had 35 strikeouts in 30 innings.

In parts of four professional seasons, Wisler is 16-10 with a 2.73 ERA in 57 games, including 55 starts.

The Padres got an extensive look at Wisler during Spring Training when he threw 11 1/3 innings over six games. He had an 11.91 ERA but his strong spring was marred by the 12 earned runs he allowed over his last two starts.

The Padres selected Wisler in the seventh-round of the 2011 Draft out of Bryan High in Ohio, keeping him from a commitment to pitch at Ohio State University.
