Pagan's sore knee being monitored

SAN FRANCISCO -- Giants manager Bruce Bochy restored Angel Pagan to the lineup Friday while acknowledging that the center fielder has right knee issues that will need to be monitored.

Bochy said that Pagan, who did not start Wednesday's series finale at Colorado, underwent an MRI that revealed a small, chronic tear of his patella tendon. That ailment, Bochy said, isn't as significant as the bruised knee Pagan recently sustained, which is primarily causing his discomfort.

To the layman, the word "tear" seems worrisome. However, Bochy said, "If you looked at a lot of players, you would find a lot of small tears somewhere."

Bochy said that Pagan's injury is not related to the left hamstring problems that sidelined him for 82 games last year.
