Shortstop Nunez returned to Tigers from D-backs

Nunez, 24, spent the entire season on the Pirates' disabled list while recovering from right ankle surgery. He played only 14 games last season, all in the Minors as part of a rehab assignment, and combined to hit .273 with three doubles, a triple and five RBIs on his rehab assignment with the Gulf Coast League Pirates, Class A Bradenton and Double-A Altoona.
Signed by the Tigers as a non-drafted free agent on May 3, 2007, Nunez was picked by the Pirates in the Major League phase of the 2011 Rule 5 Draft and claimed off waivers by the D-backs on Oct. 26.
Nunez has spent six seasons in the Minor Leagues, none of them above Double-A. He owns a career .266/.321/.349 batting line with 26 doubles, 27 triples, 13 homers, 170 RBIs and 111 stolen bases in 478 games.
