Snake bites

Wade Miley allowed one unearned run on three hits over five innings against the A's on Friday at Phoenix Municipal Stadium.

"Threw all my pitches again," Miley said. "Threw some changeups, I wanted to throw more changeups today and I did, and it was a good pitch today and just keep making progress."

Said Gibson: "He pitched great. He worked quick like he always does, worked on a couple of pitches and threw the ball extremely well. He's been throwing the ball good all spring, all of his pitches, he can throw any of them at any time, curveball is much more improved this year. He looked much more consistent with the slider today."

• Catcher Tuffy Gosewisch, who has not played since Feb. 27 due to a calf injury, is expected to see action Saturday.

• Gibson is wary of the hype surrounding top prospect Archie Bradley, who threw three innings in his first spring start and is scheduled to throw again Saturday against the Angels.

"Everybody wanted him to go out there and throw a no-hitter," Gibson said. "But we're not asking him to do that."

Veteran Henry Blanco caught Bradley in his first start and Gibson will have Miguel Montero do so Saturday so both have a feel for what Bradley features.
