Holliday day to day after misstep at first base

Cardinals outfielder stepped awkwardly on bag at end of eighth inning

Cardinals left fielder Matt Holliday did not return to the field in the top of the ninth inning of Saturday's 3-0 win against the Rockies after appearing to step awkwardly on first base on a groundout to end the eighth inning. After the game, manager Mike Matheny said that removing Holliday was just precautionary and his status is day-to-day.

"He just turned it a little as he was going through," Matheny noted. "He said he was OK."

Holliday was replaced for the final frame of Adam Wainwright's two-hit gem by Shane Robinson.

Before his apparent baserunning mishap, Holliday scored the Cardinals' third run of the game following a single. He went 2-for-5 on the day.
