Stinson called up, Barch optioned

BALTIMORE -- Before Monday's game, the Orioles selected the contract of right-hander Josh Stinson and optioned right-hander Brad Brach to clear room on the active roster.

Stinson, who made the team's Opening Day roster, has appeared in seven games for Baltimore this season and will help give the club some length behind starter Bud Norris.

Manager Buck Showalter was forced to dip into his bullpen early Sunday, with Ubaldo Jimenez lasting just 2 1/3 innings and the team needed some fresh arms in the event of another short outing. Stinson allowed nine earned runs over 11 1/3 innings -- six of which came April 13 -- and last appeared in a game for the O's on April 27 before he was designated for assignment.

Left-hander Johan Santana was transferred to the 60-day disabled list to clear a 40-man roster spot.
