Storm system forces multiple postponements
The ripple effects of the severe storm system that caused tornadoes in the Midwest and flooding in the Southeast forced early postponement of four Major League games in the Northeast on Wednesday.
Games at Yankee Stadium, Citizens Bank Park, Fenway Park and Oriole Park at Camden Yards were all called long before the gates were opened.
In Baltimore, it was the second straight night a scheduled game against the Pirates was washed out. The teams will play a single-admission doubleheader on Thursday beginning at 4:05 p.m. ET.
In New York, persistent showers interrupted former All-Star second baseman Robinson Cano's return to the Bronx with the Mariners. The game will be made up on Monday, June 2, at 7:05 p.m. ET. The two teams will play Thursday at 7:05 p.m. The Yankees will start right-hander Hiroki Kuroda while the Mariners will start lefty Roenis Elias.
The pregame ceremony honoring longtime announcer Bob Wolff which had originally been planned for Wednesday will be held Thursday instead.
In Boston, the Red Sox's game against the Rays will be made up as part of a day-night doubleheader on Thursday. The first game will begin at 1:05 p.m., followed by the regularly scheduled game at 7:05 p.m. Tickets for Wednesday's game will be honored at the first game, and Dustin Pedroia bobbleheads will be given to all fans in attendance.
In Philadelphia, the Phillies-Mets game will be played on Monday, June 2, at 7:05 p.m. That was previously an open date after the teams play a weekend series the next time the Mets are in town.
The Phils are off Thursday. Kyle Kendrick, who was scheduled to pitch Wednesday night, will be pushed back to Monday against the Blue Jays, and this weekend's rotation against the Nationals of Cliff Lee on Friday, A.J. Burnett on Saturday and Cole Hamels on Sunday will remain unchanged.
Orioles fans with tickets to Wednesday night's game will need to exchange them to attend the doubleheader. Tickets for Tuesday's postponement are also valid for both games Thursday; the original tickets should be brought to the park for admission.
Yanks fans holding tickets for Wednesday's game may use them for the rescheduled game of exchange their paid tickets for any regular-season game at Yankee Stadium within the next 12 months, subject to availability.
All Phillies tickets for Wednesday night will be honored on June 2. They may also be exchanged for a future 2014 regular season game prior to June 2, subject to availability.
