Venditte set for final hurdle in injury rehab

Switch-pitcher could rejoin A's next week if weekend outings go well

LOS ANGELES -- A's switch-pitcher Pat Venditte could soon return from the disabled list, barring any setbacks during scheduled back-to-back outings for Triple-A Nashville this weekend.

Venditte will pitch for the Sounds on Friday and Saturday, and his following appearance could potentially come in an A's uniform.

A's manager Bob Melvin said the 30-year-old is "throwing the ball well" and his velocity "has been pretty consistent with how he's thrown in the past for us."

Venditte, working his way back from a right shoulder strain, made his third rehab appearance for Class A Advanced Stockton on Tuesday, pitching two innings and allowing one hit, a home run. He walked none and struck out three.

In other injury news ...

• Outfielder Coco Crisp, out since May with a strained neck, played in the same game and went 3-for-4 with a pair of home runs. He had a scheduled day off Wednesday but is expected back in the Ports lineup Thursday.

• Left-hander Sean Doolittle (strained left shoulder) is still on track for a bullpen session in Oakland on Thursday, his first since returning to the DL on May 28.
