Sizzling start nets Miggy AL Player of the Week nod

Tigers first baseman hits .520 with two four-hit games, pair of homers

Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera has been named the American League Player of the Week after starting his season on a hot streak.

The two-time AL MVP hit .520 (13-for-25) with two doubles, two home runs, eight RBIs and four runs over six Tigers victories to secure his 13th career weekly honor (nine AL, four NL).

He led the league in total bases (21), hits and on-base percentage (.586), was tied for first in RBIs and was second in batting average and slugging percentage (.840).

The slugger had his first multi-RBI performance of the year on Wednesday against the Twins, then posted three singles in a Friday win and four more hits each on Saturday and Sunday.

He went yard twice on Sunday against the Indians, marking the first time in his career that Cabrera has had back-to-back four-hit games. It was his 31st career multihomer game.

Cabrera's teammates Jose Iglesias (.526 average, 10 hits, two stolen bases), Ian Kinsler (.440, 11 hits, seven RBIs, 10 runs) and David Price (1-0, 0.00 ERA, 14 1/3 innings, 11 strikeouts, three walks) were also recognized by MLB for their noteworthy performances last week.
