Tigers to Host Brewers and Astros During Seven-Game Homestand at Comerica Park

DETROIT - The Tigers return to Comerica Park from a weekend road trip to begin a seven-game homestand Monday night. The Tigers will open the homestand against the Milwaukee Brewers (May 18-20), while the Houston Astros will visit for a four-game series (May 21-24). The first pitches for all three games vs. the Brewers are scheduled for 7:08 p.m. Thursday's and Sunday's games against the Astros are scheduled for 1:08 p.m., while Friday is a 7:08 p.m. game and Saturday is a 4:08 p.m. start.

Monday, May 18 vs. Milwaukee Brewers at 7:08 p.m. Gates Open at 5:30 p.m.

  • MVP - Mario Impemba's salute to those who serve: On Monday home game during the 2015 season, Tigers broadcaster, Mario Impemba invites 30 Veterans of all eras and their families to come down to the ballpark on the FOX Sports Detroit Fan Express and enjoy a Tigers game. Each Veteran is given a special "MVP" t-shirt, game ticket and food voucher thanks to Mario Impemba and the Detroit Tigers Foundation, an affiliate of Ilitch Charities. Student Veterans of Oakland University will attend the game on May 18 and will have the opportunity to meet Impemba prior to the game at the FOX Sports Detroit stage in the Brushfire Grill at 5:40 p.m.
  • All-Star Voting: Voting has started for Major League Baseball's 86th All-Star Game held at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati. MLB's All-Star Balloting Program is the largest of its kind in professional sports and this year will be conducted exclusively online. Fans around the world can cast their votes for position starters 35 times by visiting tigers.com/vote. Voting is open now through July 2 and fans are encouraged to vote early and often. Last year Miguel Cabrera was elected as the American League's starting first baseman, marking the second time he had been selected to start at an All-Star Game.

  • The national anthem will be performed by vocalist Kristin Hartman and Milford High School Sign Language Choir of Milford, Michigan will sign the anthem.

 

Wednesday, May 20 vs. Milwaukee Brewers at 7:08 p.m. Gates Open at 5:30 p.m.

  • Rookie-of-the-Year Awards Presentation: The Detroit Sports Broadcasters Association will present Jose Iglesias and Nick Castellanos with their Rookie-of-the-Year awards for 2013 and 2014, respectivetly, in a pre-game ceremony.
  • The ceremonial first pitch will be thrown by Tigers Fan Joel Lee.
  • The national anthem will be performed by vocalist Joel Olsen and Oxford High School Sign Language Choir of Oxford, Michigan will sign the anthem.

 

Thursday, May 21 vs. Houston Astros at 1:08 p.m. Gates Open at 11:30 a.m.

  • Space Day: Prior to Thursday's game vs. the Houston Astros at 1:08 p.m., over 1,900 students from local schools will participate in Space Day, the fourth installment of the Tigers' annual "Class Outside Series." Students attending will learn about the science of space in a fun way. The pre-game program will feature an interactive presentation by the Michigan Science Center, utilizing the Comerica Park video board and special guest speaker Dr. Susan Lepri, PhD, Associate Professor, Department of Atmospheric, Oceanic, and Space Sciences at The University of Michigan.
  • Rookies On Deck - Detroit's Future Broadcast Stars: This season, FOX Sports Detroit broadcaster Rod Allen shares his experience as a major league broadcaster with the next generation of broadcast stars. Allen hosts 125 students from the Radio and Television Broadcast program at Detroit School of Arts. The students and teachers attend the game courtesy of Allen and the Detroit Tigers. Seniors of the program are treated to a special experience prior to the game, learning more about the broadcast and media operations of the Detroit Tigers in partnership Fox Sports Detroit. The seniors meet Rod Allen, tour the Detroit Tigers Ernie Harwell Media Center and visit the FOX Sports Detroit Tigers Live stage.
  • Aquafina School Incentive Days: During six select games this season, the Detroit Tigers Foundation and Aquafina will host over 10,000 students from area schools to reward and thank students as part of the annual Detroit Tigers School Incentive and Reward Program. For more than 60 years the Tigers organization has hosted members of school safety patrol squads and more recently, rewarded students for maintaining perfect attendance for a marking period.
  • The national anthem will be performed by the Merritt Academy Concert Band of New Haven, Michigan.

 

Friday, May 22 vs. Houston Astros at 7:08 p.m. Gates Open at 5:30 p.m.

  • 45th Annual Polish-American Night: The Tigers longest running cultural celebration returns to Comerica Park for the 45th year on Friday, May 22. The concourse will be filled with Polish music as The Big Daddy Orchestra, The Kielbasa Kings, The Steve Drzewicki Band and the Natural Tones will perform for fans entering the game. Plus, hundreds of children in costume will perform a traditional Polish dance on the field prior to the game. And don't miss Detroit's favorite mascot, PAWS as he dresses up in his traditional Polish attire for this special cultural celebration.
  • Detroit Tigers Foundation 50/50 Raffle: The Detroit Tigers Foundation 50/50 Charity Raffle continues at Comerica Park this season. This weekend, the raffle will happen on Saturday. Saturday, May 23 vs. Houston Astros at 4:08 p.m. Gates Open at 2:30 p.m.

The partner charity for this weekend's 50/50 raffle is the Little Caesars Amateur Sports Foundation, which supports youth sports programs in greater Detroit. Tickets will be sold on a digital platform and are three for $5, 10 for $10 and 40 for $20. The winner will be announced on the Comerica Park scoreboard before the end of the game.
  • The national anthem will be performed by the DeWitt High School Chamber Choir of Dewitt, Michigan.

 

Sunday, May 24 vs. Houston Astros at 1:08 p.m. Gates Open at 11:30 a.m.

  • PAWS For Applause: The PAWS for Applause program is a partnership between
  • the Detroit Tigers and the Observer & Eccentric Newspapers. It's a campaign that celebrates youth who volunteer their time and resources to make the community better. During the 2015 Tigers season, fans have the opportunity to submit an essay to the O&E Newspapers to nominate a young person in their community for doing something to make their community better. The winner will be recognized on-field prior to the first pitch on Sunday's game.
  • The first 10,000 kids 14-and-under will receive a Shane Greene poster, sponsored by Meijer.
  • The ceremonial first pitch will be thrown by Major General Gwen Bingham of the United States Army.
  • The national anthem will be performed by St. John's Episcopal Church Choir and featuring the North Oakland County Young Marines Honor Guard.
  • All Sunday home games are Kids Days at Comerica Park. All kids 14-and-under will receive a free promotional item as part of the "Every Kid, Every Sunday" giveaway guarantee, enjoy free rides courtesy of Kroger on the Comerica Bank Carousel or the Fly Ball Ferris Wheel, take part in free face painting, have the chance to win a bicycle and are invited down to the field for Kids Run the Bases courtesy of Aquafina and Meijer following the game, weather permitting.
