Toronto Blue Jays Milestones

Here are four notable Blue Jays player milestones that stand out to me.

Frank Thomas blasts his 500th home run – June 28, 2007 – Frank Thomas became the 21st player in Major League history to hit 500 career home runs when he hit a three-run home run in the first inning off of Minnesota Twins pitcher Carlos Silva. Interestingly, he also hit his first career homer against the Twins. He finished his career with 521 home runs, currently placing him tied for 18th overall.

Omar Vizquel collects his 2,874th hit – September 19, 2012 - Wearing Blue Jays’ blue, Vizquel placed 41st overall in hits when he singled into left field at the Rogers Centre last season to pass Babe Ruth on the all-time list. He would finish his season (and his career) with the Blue Jays with 2,877 hits overall, placing him 40th all time.

Dave Stieb racks up his 1,500th strikeout – July 27th, 1990 – Facing the Texas Rangers home in Toronto, Stieb recorded his 1,500th strikeout when he struck out Steve Buechele to end the top of the second en route to a 1-0 win. He pitched seven scoreless innings, allowing five hits and four walks while striking out three. Stieb finished his career with 1,658 strikeouts, good for 129th on the all-time list.

Carlos Delgado drives in his 1,000th run- September 15, 2004 – Facing former Blue Jay B.J. Ryan in the bottom of the eighth inning, Carlos Delgado hit a line drive single to left field, scoring Gabe Gross for his 1,000th career RBI. He would later collect 58 more RBIs with the Blue Jays (the all-time most for any Blue Jay) and end his career with 1,512 RBIs overall. (Honorable mention: Delgado is also the only Blue Jay to hit four home runs in one game after doing so on September 25, 2003, becoming just the 15th player to ever accomplish the feat).

There have been a multitude of exciting milestones from players that have worn a Blue Jays jersey. I look forward to seeing many more in the future.
